¿Cómo pueden los jóvenes sordos practicar y desarrollar sus habilidades de transición en casa y en línea?
Deaf youth can build transition skills at home and online by practicing real-world decision-making, self-advocacy, and life planning after high school.
They can start by exploring Deafverse, a choose-your-own-adventure game that helps build self-determination and self-advocacy skills. Tomando el Inventario de Autodeterminación can also help youth understand their strengths and identify areas for growth through a personalized informe.
En línea transition and career assessments are another way to connect interests to possible careers and learn about the skills needed for future education, training, and employment. Watching Historias de la comunidad DeafSuccess helps youth learn from deaf professionals about the skills, confidence, and persistence needed to achieve career goals.
At home, youth can practice practical skills such as building a resume, preparing for interviews through entrevistas simuladas with family members or online with teachers, classmates, or friends, and developing habilidades de vida independiente as part of daily routines.
Additional support can come from meeting remotely with the school’s IEP team to explore transition strategies, or connecting with rehabilitación vocacional to learn about Servicios de Transición Prelaboral (Pre-ETS) and other available supports.
